Around 40 million people will die every year as a direct result of consumption of sugar. Sugar is so toxic to the body it should be placed on the high risk list along with alcohol and tobacco, yet doctors argue sugar represents a small ingredient in the whole process of harm to the body long term.

The entire subject of inflammation,  sugar and cancer is crucial to understanding the links between cancer and the foods we eat.

By examining the conditions created by excessive sugar consumption , including fructose and high-fructose corn syrup, we can see clearly how food and cancer are in a dance of death.

Sugar has extremely destructive effects on diabetics, heart disease, obesity, metabolic syndrome, and hypoglycaemia to name a few.

Gastro esophageal reflux disease (GERD) is another condition caused by sugar in which the stomach contents (food or liquid) leak backwards from the stomach into the esophagus (the tube from the mouth to the stomach). This action can irritate the esophagus, causing heartburn and chronic inflammation.


Researchers have continually warned and clearly demonstrated the link between cancer, inflammation and sugar.

Reseachers at Huntsman Cancer Institute in Utah were one of the first to discover that sugar "feeds" tumours and since 1923 it has been known by scientists that tumour cells use a whole heap more glucose than normal healthy cells.,

Nothing is more important to consider in the attempt to improve the outcome of cancer treatments than the removal of sugars in one’s diet.

By starving the cancer cells of glucose it ultimately leads to cancer cell death as a result of the toxic accumulation of reactive oxygen species or ROS.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are chemically reactive molecules containing oxygen and have important roles in cell signalling and homeostatsis.

During times of environmental stress (e.g. in normal cells when subjected to UV or heat exposure), ROS levels can increase dramatically.

This results in significant damage to cell structure. Cumulatively, this is known as oxidation. By eliminating sugars necessary for cancer cell growth its ROS levels increase dramatically, damaging the cell structure of cancer cells and aiding in killing off the cancer through toxic accumulation of ROS.

The scientific and medical fraternity know the most effective way to treat cancer is to cut off the supply of food to cancer cells, starving them of sugar particularly that cancers are so sensitive to the supply of sugar.



As far back as 1924 a medical researcher called Dr. Otto Warburg stated the prime cause of cancer “was the replacement of the respiration of oxygen in normal body cells by a fermentation of sugar."

Most, if not all, tumour cells have a high demand on glucose compared to other cells even in the presence of oxygen (Warburg Effect)

In 1921 a Dr A. Braunstein observed those individuals who developed cancer, glucose secretion in the urine disappeared. In other words the cancer cells growing were scavenging all the glucose so there was none left to go into the urine

Chronic inflammation is often a precursor to cancer caused in no small part by the kinds of sugar so prevalent in today's standard diet because it promotes tumour microenvironments for cancer cells to grow and multiply.

 Once cancer cells are established in the body, they depend on steady glucose availability in the blood for their energy.

“Thus by reducing the amount of simple carbohydrates in the diet, the emergence of cancer can be suppressed or delayed, or the proliferation of already existing tumour cells can be slowed down, stopped and reversed by depriving the cancer cells of the food they need for survival.”

Simple sugars added to processed food make a huge contribution for causing the insulin response and glycation-associated inflammation that can lead to cancer.

In other words, when your insulin and free-estrogen levels are up, they speed up cell division. Sugar turns the body into a suitable breeding ground for viruses, bacteria, fungi and cancer by devastating the immune system.


Eating white sugar (or white anything) causes the mineral magnesium to plummet because the magnesium has been removed in the processing, making sugar a ripe target as a major cause of cancer because deficiencies in magnesium are not only pro-inflammatory but also pro-cancer.Magnesium is an essential mineral for the body.Some researchers have gone so far to say next to air and water magnesium is that important to the body.

Just about every second item in the supermarket has High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) in it. The reality of high fructose corn syrup is when you consume it you are literally pouring sugar and fat down your throat. It too devastates the immune system.

Sugars and the inflammation create optimal growing environments for tumours.

Inflammation aids in the proliferation and survival of malignant cells because the immune system becomes dysfunctional and alters responses to hormones and cellular messaging.

There is overwhelming scientific evidence about the connection between high sugar intake, inflammation mineral depletion, dehydration, diabetes, heart disease and cancer.

The metabolism of cancer is significantly higher than the metabolism of normal cells.Normal cells need oxygen,but cancer cells disregard oxygen when adequate glucose is present.

Knowing that one's cancer needs sugar, does it make sense to feed it sugar? Does it make sense to have a high-carbohydrate diet?

As obvious as it is cancer patients should not be feeding their cancers,but rather should be devoting time to supplements that reduce chronic inflammation in the system-krill oil, glutithione, magnesium, vitamin D,C and E  and zinc are all available in fresh foods but health supplements will certainly help lower the chronic inflammation that sets the stage for the appearance of cancer in all its forms.

Yes there are some who are predisposed genetically to cancer but by minimising that effect one should alter their eating to help the body fight the disease -not push it the wrong way with the wrong lifestyle and diet.

Our bodies are remarkable machines and given the right circumstances will regain its former health as long as you help it.

But as long as a cancer cell can get a regular supply of sugar—or glucose—it lives and thrives longer than it should.

So what should you do?
